Privacy Policy

Colander ("the app", "we", "us") is a content planning app for iPhone, operated by Andrea Tralongo, a sole trader in Victoria, Australia. This policy covers the app, this website (getcolander.app) and email support. It explains what information is handled, where it lives, and what you can do about it.
Contact: support@getcolander.app
The short version
- Your content is stored in your own iCloud account, not on our servers. We can't see it.
- There's no Colander account. You use the app with the Apple ID you're already signed in with, and we never receive your name or email address.
- We don't use analytics, advertising or tracking of any kind.
1. What the app handles
Content you create
- Post titles, publish dates, captions and caption versions, voiceover scripts and versions, notes, links you save and their titles, emoji and Genmoji, and the categories and statuses you define.
- A Genmoji you use is kept, even after the post using it is deleted, so it can be matched up again if you re-import a CSV export. Delete All Data removes them.
This is stored in your private iCloud database (see section 3). It never passes through any server we run, because we don't run any.
Stored only on your device
- Your app settings, such as your chosen colour theme.
- Icons for the websites you link to, kept so they appear instantly.
Purchases
- If you buy Colander Pro, the purchase is handled by Apple through the App Store. Apple tells the app whether you have Pro so it can unlock those features. We do not receive your name, email address or payment details.
What we do not collect
- We do not have accounts, so we do not hold your name, email address or password.
- We do not use analytics, advertising identifiers, or tracking pixels.
- We do not collect location data, contacts, photos, or health data.
- We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not sell personal information.
2. Information we may receive
We receive information about you in only two ways, and neither is automatic:
- If you email us, for example by tapping Report a Bug, we receive your email address and whatever you write. A bug report is pre-filled with the app version, device model, operating system version and your plan (Free or Pro), so we can reproduce the problem. It contains none of your content. You can read and edit everything before sending.
- If you report a problem with an import, you can choose to attach the CSV file you were importing. The app asks first, because that file contains your own content (for example post titles, captions and notes). We receive whatever is in the file, and use it only to work out and fix the problem.
- Crash reports and usage statistics from Apple. If you have chosen, in your device's settings, to share analytics with app developers, Apple may send us crash reports and aggregate usage statistics. Apple does not identify you to us in this data. You can turn this off at any time in your device's privacy settings.
3. Where your data is stored
Your content is stored with Apple's iCloud, in the private database that belongs to your Apple ID. Only you, signed in to your Apple ID, can read it. We, the developer, cannot read it, export it or change it.
This means:
- Your content syncs between your Apple devices signed in to the same Apple ID.
- It counts toward your iCloud storage. If your iCloud storage is full, new changes may not sync until you free up space.
- Apple's privacy policy and iCloud terms apply to how Apple stores it, including where its data centres are located, which may be outside Australia. Apple publishes how it protects iCloud data in its iCloud security overview.
4. Third parties
We do not run any servers of our own. The only other parties involved are:
| Party | Role | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Netlify | Hosting this website | Your IP address and basic browser details when you visit |
| Apple | iCloud storage and sync, App Store purchases, optional crash reports | Your content (in your iCloud account), your purchases, and crash data if you've opted in |
| Websites you link to | Showing a title and icon for links you save | An ordinary web request from your device |
| AI tools we use for support (such as Anthropic's Claude) | Helping us understand and fix issues you report | Only what you send us, and only when needed to fix your issue |
This website. getcolander.app is hosted by Netlify. As with any website, Netlify receives your IP address and basic browser details when you visit, so it can deliver the pages and keep the service secure. Netlify's servers may be outside Australia. The site has no cookies, analytics or tracking, and doesn't load anything from other services.
Websites you link to. When you add a link, your device loads that web page directly to find its title and icon, in the same way Messages shows a preview of a link. The website receives an ordinary web request from your device, as it would if you opened the link in a browser, which typically includes your IP address and device type. It does not receive anything about you from Colander. If the page can't be loaded, the app may load the website's home page instead to find its icon. The website's own privacy policy applies to that request. We do not receive or log these requests.
The page title is saved with your link, like the rest of your content. The icon is kept only on your device.
Support and bug reports. If you email us, including a bug report or an import file you choose to attach, we receive whatever you send. To understand and fix the issue, we may share it with AI tools (such as Anthropic's Claude). These services may be located outside Australia, including in the United States. We only share what's needed to resolve your issue, and we don't use your content for anything else.
Apart from the above, we do not disclose your information to anyone, except where required by law. Because your content is in your iCloud account rather than with us, we are not able to provide it to anyone.
5. Your rights and choices
You can:
- Access your content at any time within the app.
- Export all your content to a CSV file from Settings → Account & Data.
- Import content from a CSV file (Pro), from the same screen. Importing happens entirely on your device. If you use an AI assistant to prepare a file for import, your data is shared only with the assistant you choose, under its own privacy policy; Colander isn't involved in that step.
- Correct any information by editing it directly.
- Delete individual posts, categories or statuses within the app.
- Delete all your Colander data, from Settings → Account & Data in the app. You can also do it from your device's settings: on iPhone, go to Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Colander → Delete Data. Deleting the app alone does not delete your data from iCloud.
Because we don't hold your content or any account, we usually won't have anything to give you or delete on request. Wherever you live, you can still ask us at support@getcolander.app for a copy of any personal information we hold about you (for example, emails you've sent us), or ask us to correct or delete it. You can also complain if you believe we have mishandled it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au, or the data protection authority where you live.
6. How long it's kept
Your content stays in your iCloud account until you delete it. Emails you send us are kept only as long as needed to respond and to keep a record of support requests.
7. Security
Your content is protected by your Apple ID and by Apple's iCloud security. Data is encrypted in transit. Keep your Apple ID secure, for example with two-factor authentication, as anyone with access to it can see your Colander content. No system is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Children
Colander is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and where the change is significant we will let you know in the app.
